Albania Joins EuroHPC Joint Undertaking as 36th Participating State

Albania became the 36th participating state of the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) on June 25, 2025, following the 49th Governing Board meeting in Luxembourg. The membership was confirmed by the National Agency of Information Society (NAIS), represented by Director General Mirlinda Karçanaj.

According to the EuroHPC JU announcement, Albanian scientists are now eligible to apply for EuroHPC JU Research and Innovation calls funded under Horizon Europe, which support the development of supercomputing technologies, applications, and software. As a signatory of the Digital Europe Programme, Albania can also contribute to the deployment of the EuroHPC AI Factories network and other calls in the area of supercomputing competences and skills.

EuroHPC JU is deploying a European quantum computing infrastructure that integrates quantum computing technologies with supercomputers. Albania joined other non-EU participating states that have acceded to the Horizon Europe programme, including Iceland, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. Albania has participated in the EU Research and Innovation programmes since 2008.
