Algeria’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research accredited a Master’s degree program in Quantum Computing at Ferhat Abbas University in Setif (Setif 1) for the 2023/2024 academic year. According to a notice distributed through Algerian universities, the thematic network in Quantum Computing launched the course at Setif 1, which serves as the pilot institution. The program is open to holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
A four-semester curriculum covers quantum cryptography, machine learning, optimization, simulation, and parallel architectures, according to the University of Setif’s announcement. In June 2024, CQTech organized a hands-on quantum technologies workshop at Setif for students enrolled in the program, confirming that the Master’s program had been initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Algeria became one of the few African countries to offer a ministry-accredited graduate program specifically dedicated to quantum computing. Prior to this, quantum-related coursework at Algerian universities was limited to modules within theoretical physics programs.
