In June 2022, Argentina’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation established the Inter-Institutional Program for Strengthening Quantum Science and Technology (Programa Interinstitucional de Fortalecimiento de la Ciencia y la Tecnología Cuántica). The program was created within the Secretariat for Scientific and Technological Articulation (Secretaría de Articulación Científico Tecnológica, or SACT).
According to the ministry’s announcement, an Advisory Council was appointed with researchers from four national scientific and technology institutions: the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI), and the Defense Research Institute (CITEDEF). Researchers from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), the National University of San Martín (UNSAM), and the National University of Córdoba (UNC) also participated.
The program’s stated objectives included promoting scientific research, development, and technology transfer in quantum science and technology; strengthening existing research groups; creating new laboratories; and generating human resources in the field. The Advisory Council was tasked with producing a roadmap of challenges, objectives, and proposals for the ministry’s consideration.
