In December 2025, the Universidad Nacional de Hurlingham (UNAHUR) announced the acquisition of a quantum computer, making it the first institution in Argentina’s public university system to operate such a device. According to UNAHUR’s announcement, the system is a three-qubit educational quantum computer, described as the second of its kind in Latin America. The university also contracted an Amazon Web Services cloud service providing access to larger-scale quantum computers located abroad.

Rector Jaime Perczyk described the acquisition as a strategic investment to strengthen the training of students, faculty, and researchers across Argentina’s university system. Rather than reserving the equipment for internal use, UNAHUR established a shared-access network with multiple partner institutions.

Participating institutions include the Universidad de Buenos Aires, the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, the Universidad Nacional de San Martín, the Universidad Nacional de Quilmes, and several other national universities, along with the Provincial Commission for Scientific Research (CIC) and the Argentine Physics Association. The initiative was structured to combine on-site hardware training with cloud-based access to more advanced quantum systems for research purposes.
