The Queensland Government released the Queensland Quantum and Advanced Technologies Strategy, backed by AU$83.7 million (approximately US$54 million) over five years. Queensland was the first Australian state to deliver a dedicated quantum strategy, according to a ministerial media statement.
Built on five pillars, the strategy covered deep science capability, science commercialization, quantum workforce development, engagement and missions, and investment. It complemented the federal National Quantum Strategy released in May 2023 and positioned Queensland as a hub for quantum technology development in Australia and the Asia-Pacific.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the strategy would support the development of production facilities for advanced technologies in Queensland and help commercialize research and intellectual property domestically. Queensland had a long history in quantum research, having co-funded Australia’s first quantum Centres of Excellence in 2003 under the Smart State Strategy.
