Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig announced on March 12, 2026, that the City of Vienna would build a Quantum Technology Center Vienna in the Neu Marx district. According to reporting by VOL.AT, the facility will be located on Litfassstrasse adjacent to the planned Life Science Center Vienna and will offer approximately 15,600 square meters of rental space across six floors, including laboratory and office space and cleanrooms.

Science Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner welcomed the plans, stating that “quantum technologies are among the key technologies of the 21st century” and that “Austria has an exceptionally strong research landscape here.” The center will be developed by the Vienna Business Agency (Wirtschaftsagentur Wien) on behalf of the City of Vienna.

Project planning began in 2026, with a construction tender scheduled for no later than summer 2027 and completion targeted for 2033. The center will focus on applied research in quantum sensing, quantum communication, quantum security, and quantum computing. A quantum computer was also announced as part of the facility’s planned infrastructure. Ludwig cited Vienna’s tradition of quantum research and cooperation with Nobel laureate Anton Zeilinger as motivation for the investment.
