Azerbaijan and Telecom Italia Sign MoU on Cybersecurity and Quantum Communications

Azerbaijan’s Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA) and Italy’s TIM Group (Telecom Italia) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Baku on March 18, 2025. The agreement covers digital transformation, cybersecurity, and quantum communications technologies. Italy’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Luca Di Gianfrancesco, attended the signing ceremony.

According to the TIM Group press release, the partnership includes collaboration on “advanced connectivity and IoT, cybersecurity initiatives, and quantum communications technologies.” TIM CEO Pietro Labriola noted that the company had invested in developing proprietary enterprise services in areas including cybersecurity and quantum computing, which it could transfer to other markets.

Salar Imamaliyev, Advisor to the IDDA Chairman, said the partnership would help accelerate Azerbaijan’s development as a regional innovation hub. A joint steering committee was established to coordinate the implementation of projects under the agreement. TIM and IDDA also discussed the Italian company’s potential entry into the Azerbaijani market.
