On January 18-19, 2024, the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) organized the Brussels Cybersecurity Summit to mark the start of Belgium’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event brought together approximately 500 European policymakers and global cybersecurity experts.
Post-quantum cryptography featured in the summit’s agenda alongside discussions on active cyber protection, EU cybersecurity policy implementation, and the future of the bloc’s cybersecurity posture. According to CCB reporting on the presidency, the Centre “contributed to discussions on Post-Quantum Cryptography” within the NIS Cooperation Group during the presidency term.
Belgium held the rotating EU Council Presidency from January 1 to June 30, 2024, under the motto “Protect, Strengthen, Prepare.” During this period, the CCB also chaired EU-CyCLONe, the CSIRTs Network, and the NIS Cooperation Group, and helped secure unanimous Council Conclusions on the future of EU cybersecurity policy at the Telecom Council on May 21, 2024.
