Countries & Organisations

Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the European Competence Centers for Southeast Europe (EuroCC4SEE) project as a participating country when the initiative launched on April 1, 2024. Co-financed by the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) and the EU’s Digital Europe Programme, the project runs through December 31, 2025, and covers Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Turkey, according to the EuroCC4SEE project page.

Under the project, a National Competence Center for High-Performance Computing (NCC BiH) was established through a partnership between the Verlab Institute and Verlab Ltd., based in Sarajevo. The NCC provides technical advice, training, and competency development in HPC for small and medium-sized enterprises, academic institutions, and public administration, according to the European HPC portal. The center does not hold the status of a state institution.

According to an interview published by HPC Serbia, Ana Lalović of the Verlab Institute said the NCC organized 12 workshops in 2024 with more than 500 participants. Early achievements include consultancy services for pharmaceutical company Bosnalijek in advanced molecular dynamics simulations. The NCC has also co-created project proposals for developing master’s and PhD programs in HPC-related fields.
