In 2022, the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), together with the National Education and Research Network (RNP) and Softex, organized the Brazil Quantum Computing Challenge. The event brought together researchers, government officials, and industry representatives to map the challenges of implementing quantum computing in the country and discuss strategies for developing a national quantum ecosystem.
Alongside the challenge, MCTI and Softex launched the Quantum Technologies Network, coordinated by the National Industrial Learning Service’s Integrated Manufacturing and Technology Center (Senai Cimatec) in Salvador, Bahia. According to published reports, the network’s objective is to integrate government actions with research centers and startups, preparing the country for the adoption of quantum technologies.
These initiatives marked the beginning of a structured federal effort to coordinate Brazil’s quantum computing ecosystem, connecting public policy with academic research and private-sector innovation.
