An international forum on quantum technologies has been formally added to the BRICS Science, Technology, and Innovation Calendar of Activities, with the event scheduled to take place in Russia in 2026. According to a Rosatom newsletter published on August 25, 2025, the forum follows the 17th BRICS Summit held July 6-7 in Rio de Janeiro, where member nations expressed support for advancing quantum technologies.
Ekaterina Solntseva, Director for Quantum Technologies at Rosatom, stated that the Russian nuclear corporation “fully supports the inclusion of quantum technologies in the BRICS agenda and welcomes opportunities for international collaboration.” Rosatom has led Russia’s quantum computing efforts under a 2020 agreement with the Russian government and will also oversee quantum sensor development starting in 2026.
Forum participants will include representatives of government agencies, the business community, and leading scientists from BRICS member and partner countries. The event is intended to expand international scientific and technical cooperation and accelerate the development of applied quantum solutions across the bloc.
