In 2018, the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ) joined the QuantERA ERA-NET Cofund in Quantum Technologies consortium, a network of research funding organizations from across Europe that finances international research projects in quantum technology. According to the Croatian Science Foundation, HRZZ participated in the second QuantERA Call, which was open from November 2018 to February 2019.

QuantERA, coordinated by the Polish National Science Centre, brings together funding bodies from more than 25 countries and is co-funded through the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme. By joining the consortium, HRZZ enabled Croatian research groups to apply for transnational quantum technology projects for the first time through this channel. Four Croatian research groups participated in collaborative consortia and applied for the QuantERA 2019 call.

HRZZ subsequently continued its QuantERA participation in later calls. One Croatian-led project was selected for funding through the QuantERA 2021 call, and additional Croatian teams participated in the QuantERA 2023 call.
