The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking signed the procurement contract for the LUMI-Q quantum computer to be installed at IT4Innovations in Ostrava, Czech Republic. According to the EuroHPC JU, the contract was awarded to Finland-based vendor IQM Quantum Computers for a system based on superconducting qubits in a star-shaped topology with 24 physical qubits coupled to a central resonator.
The total acquisition cost was approximately EUR 5 million (approximately $5.5 million), with the EuroHPC JU funding 50% and the LUMI-Q consortium covering the remaining half. Installation was planned for 2025. Once operational, the system would be available to European researchers, companies, and the public sector, integrated with the Karolina supercomputer at IT4Innovations to enable combined classical and quantum computations.
