On June 5, 2024, the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO) announced an investment of DKK 70 million (approximately $10.2 million) in Atom Computing, a California-based quantum computing company. As a result, Atom Computing chose Denmark as the location for its European headquarters, becoming the first U.S. quantum computing company to establish such an office there, according to EIFO’s announcement.

EIFO described the investment as its first direct investment in a company outside of Denmark. Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs Morten Bødskov said the partnership was evidence “that the visions of the current administration’s quantum strategy makes a tangible difference and creates new partnerships.”

EIFO said the partnership supports Denmark’s National Strategy for Quantum Technology and is an example of the QIST cooperation agreement between Denmark and the United States, signed in June 2022. PensionDanmark separately invested DKK 70 million ($10 million) in Atom Computing in September 2024.
