On September 1, 2023, the first cohort of students started at Denmark’s newly established Master of Science programme in Quantum Information Science, a joint offering from the University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). According to Invest in Denmark, the programme is the first of its kind in Denmark and one of only a few comparable programmes worldwide.
Originally expected to admit around 25 students, the programme received approximately 170 applications and enrolled 41 students from 16 countries, including the United States, Switzerland, India, and China. The two-year interdisciplinary programme combines physics, computer science, mathematics, and chemistry, allowing students to specialize in theoretical, experimental, or technological aspects of quantum information science.
Jan Philip Solovej, Professor at the University of Copenhagen and the programme’s head of studies, noted the international student cohort adds value by creating “international awareness of the Danish quantum environment.”
