On September 29, 2023, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg opened the Deep Tech Lab – Quantum in Copenhagen, a new center for quantum technologies that forms part of NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA). The ceremony was attended by the Danish Minister of Defence, the Minister of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, and the Minister of Higher Education and Science, according to the Danish Ministry of Defence.

The center consists of two elements: an accelerator providing a 6-to-12-month educational mentorship course for companies operating in both commercial and defense markets, and test centers for developing components in quantum sensors, encryption devices, and quantum computers. Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen said Denmark was “proud” to support quantum technology development in the alliance.

Minister of Higher Education and Science Christina Egelund described the placement of the center in Denmark as “a great recognition of Danish research” and noted the government had allocated more than DKK 1 billion under its national quantum strategy. The center later hosted the first cohort of NATO DIANA startups in 2024.
