On May 1, 2024, Novo Holdings announced it was allocating DKK 1.4 billion (€188 million) for investing in quantum technologies, with Denmark as the center of gravity. The initiative seeks to support and advance quantum technology companies with applications in the life sciences, according to the Novo Holdings press release.

A dedicated Quantum Investments sub-team was established within Novo Holdings’ Seed Investments area, focusing on quantum computing, sensing, and algorithms. While the investment mandate is global, Denmark was identified as the anchor point given the country’s track record in public-private partnerships and its existing quantum research base.

Novo Holdings noted that Denmark’s per capita investments in quantum technology were the highest in the world at the time, combining the government’s DKK 1.2 billion commitment with Novo Nordisk Foundation grants and other contributions. Deep Tech Lab – Quantum, Denmark’s official NATO DIANA accelerator site, was identified as a key partner in the ecosystem.
