On June 19, 2023, the Danish government published the first part of its National Strategy for Quantum Technology, committing DKK 1 billion (approximately $93.6 million) to quantum research and innovation over the period 2023-2027. The Ministry of Higher Education and Science press release stated that the Finance Act for 2023 had already allocated DKK 212 million to the quantum field, with the government’s ambition to maintain that level over four years.
A key pillar of the strategy is a new Strategic Program for Quantum Research and Innovation, administered through Innovation Fund Denmark. The program supports new research projects, knowledge-based innovation, interdisciplinary research, talent development, and Danish participation in international research collaborations. A National Forum for Quantum Technology was established to advise the government on the strategy’s implementation.
Additional measures included DKK 50 million to increase researcher and student access to quantum computer platforms through the Danish e-Infrastructure Cooperation (DeiC), and efforts to attract a Quantum Excellence Center to Denmark for developing and testing quantum software and algorithms. A second part of the strategy, focused on commercialization and security, was announced for release later in 2023.
