On June 7, 2022, the United States and Denmark signed a Joint Statement on Cooperation in Quantum Information Science and Technology (QIST). The signing followed a June 3 meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeppe Kofod. Monica P. Medina, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, signed the statement for the United States, while Ambassador Lone Dencker Wisborg signed for Denmark, according to a release from the National Quantum Coordination Office.
According to the statement, the cooperation would seek to strengthen the supply chain, grow the industrial base, and educate future generations of quantum talent. It built upon the 2009 U.S.-Denmark Science and Technology Agreement. Ambassador Wisborg said the joint statement confirmed a “shared ambition of working even closer together” on quantum and technological development.
At the time of the signing, Denmark was also developing a cross-government quantum action plan and a new strategy for quantum research, with international cooperation with trusted partners identified as a key element.
