Estonia’s Ministry of Economic Affairs assigned Metrosert, the national metrology and applied research institute, to coordinate the development of the country’s first national quantum technology roadmap. According to a NordForsk assessment, the roadmap carries a tentative timeline of 2026 and a 5-to-10-year perspective. No formal investment figure has been disclosed.
A coordinating unit was established at Metrosert to support the development of Estonia’s quantum technology ecosystem. According to Kvant.ee, this unit facilitates information exchange among stakeholders, fosters international partnerships, and raises public awareness of quantum technology.
Anticipated content of the roadmap includes a focus on quantum sensing, metrology, and communication, as well as quantum software applications that draw on Estonia’s established information technology sector. The NordForsk report noted that while Estonia’s National Digital Decade Strategic Roadmap 2023 references quantum technology as part of a list of transformative technologies, no specific initiatives, investments, or strategic actions related to quantum had previously been outlined in national policy documents.
