The University of Tartu launched a quantum computing micro-degree program on February 9, 2026. According to the university’s program listing, the 12-credit (312-hour) blended learning program runs through January 2027 and is taught in English at a cost of €1,200.

Designed for individuals with a background in natural or technical sciences, the program aims to provide foundational skills in quantum computing, beginning with an accessible introduction and concluding with the ability to write and run elementary quantum programs in Python. Students learn fundamental concepts of quantum information, the mathematics of entanglement and superposition, and practical use of open-source tools such as IBM Qiskit.

Metrosert’s Quantum Technology Coordinator, Nataly Dubbelman, previously noted the micro-degree as a positive development for building Estonia’s quantum technology ecosystem. The program spans two semesters and two courses: “Introduction to Quantum Information” in the spring semester and a follow-up course in autumn. The University of Tartu offers the program as part of its broader micro-degree and micro-credential initiative launched in the spring semester of 2025/2026.
