On December 9, 2025, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) held the kick-off meeting of its new Quantum Technologies Technical Committee (TC QT) at its headquarters in Sophia-Antipolis. According to the ETSI press release, the event attracted over 90 participants from Europe, Canada, Singapore, Japan, and other countries.
Mark Pecen from EigenQ Europe was elected as Chair of TC QT. Axel Ferrazzini (GovStrat), Federico Grasselli (Leonardo S.p.A), Martin Ward (Toshiba), and Momtchil Peev (Huawei) were elected as Vice Chairs. The committee agreed to host future meetings alongside other ETSI quantum-focused groups, including Quantum Safe Cryptography and Quantum Key Distribution.
TC QT’s first work item will be a Technical Report mapping the broader quantum ecosystem and identifying cooperation opportunities. In parallel, the committee will develop a Quantum Technologies Radar providing regularly updated overviews of emerging quantum technologies. A Technical Report on Implementation Guidelines for Quantum Random Number Generators was already in the approval process at the time of the meeting.
