By November 2025, the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Digital Programme had funded 19 projects developing cross-border links between national quantum communication networks and interconnections with the EuroQCI’s space component. A €389 million investment round for cable, 5G, and quantum communications under CEF Digital was announced on November 20, 2025.
According to the European Commission, this cross-border funding built upon the first implementation phase of EuroQCI’s terrestrial segment from 2023 to 2025, which used Digital Europe Programme resources for industrial projects, national network design, and the PETRUS coordination and support action. Further development of national networks and space-segment interconnections would be funded under IRIS², the EU space-based secure communication system.
