On February 12, 2026, Europe’s third EuroHPC quantum computer, Euro-Q-Exa, was inaugurated at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) in Garching, Munich. The ceremony was attended by Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen, Parliamentary State Secretary Silke Launert, and Bavarian State Minister Markus Blume.

Euro-Q-Exa is a superconducting-qubit system supplied by IQM Quantum Computers, featuring 54 qubits based on the Radiance platform. According to the EuroHPC JU, a second system with more than 150 qubits will be added by the end of 2026. The system cost €25 million, with €10 million from EuroHPC and the remainder from German federal and Bavarian state authorities.

Euro-Q-Exa followed PIAST-Q in Poland and VLQ in Czechia as the third EuroHPC quantum system to become operational. It integrates with the SuperMUC-NG supercomputer, enabling hybrid quantum-classical workflows for climate modeling, computational pharmacology, and materials research.
