In January 2024, the European Commission launched NOSTRADAMUS, a four-year project to establish a testing and evaluation infrastructure for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technologies and services. The project enables QKD-based technologies to be assessed and validated with a view toward certification, allowing users to verify security against attacks.

According to the European Commission, the infrastructure was progressively deployed and then transferred to the Commission’s Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy. NOSTRADAMUS supports the broader EuroQCI initiative by providing pre-certification environments for QKD components and preparing them for integration into end-to-end systems and network architectures.
