In early 2021, the European Commission launched QuantERA II, the second phase of the ERA-NET Cofund in Quantum Technologies under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. QuantERA II expanded the consortium to 41 research funding organizations from 31 countries, up from 27 agencies in 22 countries during the first phase.
According to the CORDIS project record, the central objective was to launch transnational co-funded calls with a planned budget of over €26 million in national contributions, supplemented by an expected €15 million in EU contributions. QuantERA II organized joint calls for proposals in 2021 and 2023, supporting transnational research projects in quantum technologies.
Building on the first phase, which funded 38 projects for over €45 million and involved 193 research teams from 25 countries, QuantERA II continued efforts to map public quantum technology policies across Europe and coordinate national research funding in the quantum domain.
