The Research Council of Finland awarded €13 million (~$14.2 million) on January 11, 2024, to the Finnish Quantum Flagship (FQF) project. According to Aalto University, the flagship’s host organizations were expected to contribute roughly the same amount, covering the first five years of the eight-year project. FQF planned to begin operations in March 2024.

FQF Director Peter Liljeroth said the funding would broaden interdisciplinary quantum expertise and translate it beyond the scientific community. The flagship also included a Nordic dimension, with members performing a landscape analysis alongside counterparts from Sweden, Denmark, and Norway as part of the Nordic Quantum collaborative. Education activities included open-access programs and training aimed at raising quantum awareness in Finnish society.
