Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) launched the E-Learning African International School on Quantum Science and Technology (ELAIS-QST) in August 2024. According to the KNUST Events Management System, the program ran from August 1, 2024, through February 28, 2025, as a six-month intensive introductory school for African students and professionals to explore quantum science and technology across energy, healthcare, materials technology, and other sectors.

The Department of Physics at KNUST organized the initiative in collaboration with the KNUST E-Learning Centre. Both local and international experts delivered the course content, which was held online with sessions scheduled twice or more per month. ELAIS-QST was open to participants across Africa and targeted young students and professionals seeking to enter the field of quantum science and technology.

At the opening ceremony, the organizing team presented a “Road Map for Africa” outlining a vision for quantum science education on the continent. ELAIS-QST served as a precursor to the African International Conference on Quantum Algorithms for Simulation, which KNUST later hosted in February 2026.
