On June 18, 2025, the International Council of Quantum Industry Associations (ICQIA) and partner association UKQuantum issued a joint statement welcoming the G7 Leaders’ Kananaskis Common Vision for the Future of Quantum Technologies. The G7 leaders’ statement, released on June 17 at the 2025 summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, marked the first time quantum technologies were formally recognized as a shared strategic priority at the G7 Leaders’ level.

As published by Quantum Industry Canada, the joint ICQIA-UKQuantum statement was signed by the Executive Committee of ICQIA — comprising QIC, QuIC, QED-C, and Q-STAR — alongside UKQuantum. The response noted that in the fall of 2024, ICQIA had jointly submitted a letter to Canada’s then-Prime Minister urging quantum prioritization during the 2025 G7 Presidency, and that the leaders’ statement reflected that call.

ICQIA leaders were gathered at the QUANTUM NOW / ICI QUANTIQUE forum in Montreal, hosted by Quantum Industry Canada on June 18-19, 2025. On June 19, ICQIA leaders together with UKQuantum participated in an executive panel entitled “Beyond Borders: G7 Collaboration in the Quantum Economy.” The G7 leaders’ statement itself established a G7 Joint Working Group on Quantum Technologies and committed to promoting investment, workforce development, supply chain security, and adoption of quantum-resilient security measures.
