India Establishes I-HUB Quantum Technology Foundation at IISER Pune

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) and 13 research groups from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) established the I-HUB Quantum Technology Foundation (I-HUB QTF) at IISER Pune in 2020. The hub was set up under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) with a dedicated budget of ₹170 crore (approximately USD 23 million).

According to reporting on the initiative, I-HUB QTF’s flagship projects included developing an ion-trap-based quantum computer and a quantum gravimeter for precision gravity sensing. The foundation also initiated programs with international quantum groups, positioning it as a dedicated national hub for quantum technology research and collaboration.
