Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh announced the establishment of four Thematic Hubs (T-Hubs) and Technical Groups under the National Quantum Mission (NQM) on September 30, 2024. The PIB release stated that the hubs were selected through a competitive process from 384 proposals received in January 2024.
IISc Bengaluru was selected for quantum computing, IIT Madras along with C-DOT New Delhi for quantum communication, IIT Bombay for quantum sensing and metrology, and IIT Delhi for quantum materials and devices. Together, the four hubs comprise 14 Technical Groups with 17 project teams involving 152 researchers from 43 institutions across 17 states and 2 Union Territories.
Dr. Singh said the hubs “will be at the forefront of research and innovation, setting the stage for India’s leadership in quantum computing, communication, sensing, and materials.” NQM also announced detailed guidelines for nurturing startups in quantum technologies.
