The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched India’s first Quantum Computer Simulator (QSim) Toolkit on August 27, 2021. Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar launched the toolkit at a hybrid event in New Delhi, according to the MeitY announcement.

QSim was developed collaboratively by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, IIT Roorkee, and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), with funding and support from MeitY. The toolkit allows researchers and students to write and debug quantum code essential for developing quantum algorithms, and to simulate quantum circuits with and without noise.

Features include an intuitive graphical user interface, pre-loaded quantum algorithms, and integration with high-performance computing resources. MeitY Secretary Ajay Sawhney said QSim was “a very initial step” to be strengthened by quantum-related academic programs already launched at IISc Bangalore.
