On October 27, 2025, Iran announced plans to establish its first Quantum Communication Laboratory and Atomic Clock Laboratory. The laboratories are intended to strengthen Iran’s quantum capabilities in secure communications and precision timing.

The Quantum Insider reported that the announcement followed the implementation earlier in 2025 of Iran’s national document on quantum science and technology, which set out a roadmap for research and commercialization across multiple quantum technology areas. Iran’s existing quantum research activities are coordinated through the National Center for Quantum Technology, which operates under the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
