On August 25, 2025, the Tehran Times reported that Iran had launched a national project to design and implement the country’s first quantum network, with a target completion by March 2026. The project is supported by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, and knowledge-based companies.

The project began with a comparative study of advanced countries’ quantum network programs, according to the report. The announcement followed President Pezeshkian’s declaration in July 2025 of the national document on quantum science and technology, which established a roadmap for research, technology expansion, and commercialization of quantum capabilities.
