SFI Establishes National Advisory Forum for Quantum Technology in Ireland

Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) established a National Advisory Forum for Quantum Technology, bringing together researchers, policymakers, and industry representatives to chart Ireland’s direction in quantum technologies. According to SFI Deputy Director General Ciarán Seoighe, the forum followed a January 2020 convening of leading quantum technology researchers, policymakers, and industry figures to discuss where Ireland should go next in the field, as reported by The Irish Times.

Seoighe noted that the forum was established to take forward the outcomes of those discussions, building on Ireland’s existing research base at institutions including the Tyndall National Institute and the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC). An industry forum was also being established alongside the advisory body. The National Advisory Forum later contributed to the development of Ireland’s Quantum 2030 national strategy, published in November 2023.
