Ireland Awards €13.7 Million DTIF Grant for QUBIC Quantum Computing Project

Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke TD and Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless TD announced €13.7 million in funding for the QUBIC (Quantum Utilisation for Breakthroughs in Ireland’s Computing) project under Call 7 of the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund. QUBIC was one of six projects receiving a total of €36.9 million in DTIF funding, according to the government announcement.

Led by Equal1, an Irish quantum computing company and University College Dublin spin-out, QUBIC is a three-year industrial research project creating quantum algorithms, hardware, and software for energy, climate modelling, advanced materials, and pharmaceuticals. Partners include Biosimulytics, Nexalus, Algorithmiq Computing, Dell Technologies, the Irish Manufacturing Research Centre, UCD School of Computer Science, UCD Centre for Quantum Engineering, Science, and Technology (C-QuEST), UCD Energy Institute, and CeADAR.

Equal1 CEO Jason Lynch said the project unites Ireland’s most ambitious industry and research partners to co-develop solutions aimed at real-world breakthroughs.
