On October 6, 2023, Israel became the 34th participating state in the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), following the body’s 34th Governing Board meeting in Luxembourg. The accession was announced by the EuroHPC JU.
EuroHPC JU Executive Director Anders Dam Jensen stated that Israel’s “expertise in technology and innovation will contribute in maintaining Europe as a global leader in HPC and Quantum Computing.” Shlomi Kofman of the Israel Innovation Authority’s international division said Israel was “thrilled to join.”
Membership gave Israel access to the EuroHPC ecosystem, which includes both classical supercomputers and quantum computers being deployed across Czechia, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Spain. Israel joined six other non-EU states already participating in EuroHPC through their Horizon Europe association.
