On December 17, 2024, Israel announced its first domestically built quantum computer, a 20-qubit system using superconducting technology. The computer was developed under the leadership of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the Israel Innovation Authority, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and its technology transfer company Yissum, according to The Quantum Insider.
The collaboration established a superconductor-based quantum computing infrastructure and a development and integration environment intended to support both defense and civilian applications. Quantum QHIPU’s laboratory at Hebrew University was designated for practical uses including simulations, design work, and international collaborations.
IAI CEO Boaz Levy said the company was “proud to lead Israel toward becoming a global quantum power.” IIA CEO Dror Bin described the unveiling as “an important milestone” and “part of a broad strategy led by the Israel Innovation Authority to promote breakthrough technologies.”
