In September 2019, Tel Aviv University inaugurated its Center for Quantum Science and Technology during a research workshop on quantum computing and quantum chemistry, according to The Times of Israel. The center brought together approximately 20 research labs from different faculties.
TAU Rector Prof. Yaron Oz described the center’s focus areas as quantum computing, quantum communications, multidisciplinary research in materials and sensors, and international ties with corporations including Google, IBM, and Microsoft. The center also planned study programs in quantum computing and quantum communications tracks.
At the inaugural workshop, participants were offered access to an IBM quantum computer via the cloud. Prof. Ady Arie of the School of Electrical Engineering noted that quantum computers, quantum communication, quantum sensors, and quantum materials would collectively transform technology across security, aviation, manufacturing, and medicine.
