Rome hosted the first Italian Quantum General Assembly (Stati Generali delle Tecnologie Quantistiche) on December 17, 2025, bringing together government officials, academics, and industry leaders to discuss the implementation of the Italian Strategy for Quantum Technologies. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event was organized by the Department for Digital Transformation in collaboration with six ministries and the National Cybersecurity Agency.
Defence Minister Guido Crosetto proposed the creation of a National Quantum Polo, a centralized body to coordinate quantum research, industry, and institutional efforts. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani addressed the assembly, noting that quantum technologies present opportunities for economic growth, industrial innovation, and global competitiveness. Ministers Adolfo Urso and Anna Maria Bernini also attended, along with more than 450 stakeholders.
Contributions from the event were to be incorporated into the next phases of the strategy’s implementation, guiding planned actions for 2026. Undersecretary Butti described the event as a shift from “talking about quantum” to “putting the National Strategy into practice.”
