Latvia Signs Multi-Stakeholder MoU on Quantum Technology Development

On October 19, 2023, eleven cooperation partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Development of Quantum Technologies in Latvia at the international forum “5G Techritory” in Riga. The signatories included the Latvian State Radio and Television Centre, the Electronic Communications Office of Latvia, the University of Latvia, the Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, LMT, Tet, Mikrotikls (MikroTik), the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development.

According to Riga Technical University, the memorandum provided for promoting the international competitiveness of Latvian high technologies in quantum, including developing local competencies and innovations, establishing shared test environments, supporting coherent development of innovative quantum solutions, promoting academic-industry cooperation for knowledge transfer, and holding joint meetings several times a year.

Gatis Ozols, Deputy State Secretary on Digital Transformation Affairs at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, said the project had united Latvian government institutions, the academic sector, and the commercial sector. The signing took place at a co-creation event titled “Waiting for the Quantum Era” within the 5G Techritory forum.
