South Korea’s SDT Inc. and MIMOS Technology Solutions Sdn Bhd (MTSSB), a subsidiary of Malaysia’s national research and development agency MIMOS, announced a partnership on November 13, 2024, to establish Malaysia’s first Quantum Computing Centre. According to a Bernama report, SDT will contribute its expertise in quantum communication and ultra-precision electronics to support Malaysia’s quantum computing efforts.

A joint statement said the collaboration would involve several Malaysian government agencies, including the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), and the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The Malaysian Quantum Initiative (MyQI) community was also named as a participant. Integration of quantum technology into cybersecurity, healthcare, and finance were identified as priority areas.

MIMOS, operating under MOSTI, serves as Malaysia’s national applied R&D centre. SDT is the sole supplier of quantum control equipment in South Korea and develops quantum computers using silicon spin, superconducting, and neutral atom platforms in collaboration with Korean research institutions.
