A consortium of Mexican universities organized a Workshop on Quantum Technologies in Science and Engineering in Mexico City from June 11 to 13, 2025, as part of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025). The event, listed on the official IYQ 2025 event page, aimed to promote multidisciplinary collaboration in quantum computing, quantum simulation, quantum sensors, and quantum control across experimental platforms in Mexico.
Separately, a paper published by IEEE documented the establishment of a nationwide university network in Mexico to address quantum computing education from undergraduate through doctoral levels. According to the IEEE publication, the network organized a series of talks on opportunities in the quantum computing ecosystem with potential collaborations aimed at Latin American countries. A total of 240 Spanish speakers registered, with 30 percent identifying as introductory level and 4 percent as experts.
Over 40 universities participated, including UNAM’s CECAv, the Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP), and Tecnológico de Monterrey, along with companies such as IBM Quantum, Xanadu, Quantinuum, and the Unitary Fund. The network continues to grow as a collaboration platform linking academic institutions, research centers, and technology companies.
