Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane hosted the second Quantum Morocco conference from October 14 to 25, 2024, funded by the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme. According to the conference website, the major theme was “Cybersecurity in the era of quantum computing: threats and challenges.”
A NATO document on quantum technologies and the SPS Programme described the event as an Advanced Study Institute (ASI), jointly organized by experts from the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics at the Polish Academy of Sciences and Mohammed V University in Rabat. Researchers from 13 NATO allies and partner countries participated.
Morocco is an eligible NATO partner country under the SPS Programme. The ASI format provides structured, multi-day training combining lectures and workshops, in this case focused on quantum computing threats to cryptographic systems. The conference built on the first Quantum Morocco edition held at Mohammed V University in Rabat in September 2023.
