Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) launched a quantum computing training initiative at its Benguerir campus from February 25 to March 2, 2023. According to the UM6P School of Applied and Engineering Physics, the event provided intensive training in quantum physics, quantum computing, and quantum coding.
Organized by Abdelouahad El Fatimy and colleagues at UM6P’s Institute of Applied Physics, the initiative represented one of the first structured quantum computing education programs at a Moroccan university. UM6P, established by the OCP Foundation and inaugurated by King Mohammed VI in 2017, operates as a research-oriented institution with campuses in Benguerir, Rabat, and Laayoune.
UM6P’s College of Computing has since expanded its quantum-related research portfolio, advertising postdoctoral positions in areas including AI for cybersecurity and quantum cryptography. The university also hosts the Toubkal supercomputer, one of the most powerful in Africa, providing high-performance computing infrastructure that complements quantum research activities.
