On September 29, 2023, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited Copenhagen and called for the creation of a transatlantic quantum community. Speaking at the Copenhagen Quantum 2023 Conference alongside Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Stoltenberg identified leading Allied quantum nations including Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.
In a joint statement, Stoltenberg and Frederiksen emphasized the importance of closer collaboration among public, private, and academic sectors and the acceleration of responsible innovation in quantum and quantum-enabled technologies.
Later that day, the Secretary General opened the new DIANA accelerator site “Deep Tech Lab – Quantum” in Copenhagen, together with Danish ministers of defence, industry, and higher education. According to NATO, the lab would help start-ups from across the Alliance commercialize quantum-enabled solutions. It was one of five pilot accelerator sites launched in 2023 as part of NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic.
