On November 12-13, 2024, the first annual plenary of NATO’s Transatlantic Quantum Community (TQC) took place in Copenhagen. Led by Denmark as its inaugural chairing nation, the two-day conference brought together experts from industry, academia, funding bodies, and government.
NATO Assistant Secretary General for Innovation, Hybrid and Cyber, Jean-Charles Ellermann-Kingombe, stated that “quantum is one of the technologies where we cannot take our leadership for granted.” According to NATO, 22 Allies were participating in the quantum community at the time. Conference topics included the scaling up of quantum technologies, partnership with industry and funding bodies, and dual-use applications of quantum technologies.
During the plenary, the Danish Chair launched a new “Quantum Industry Network” to facilitate NATO’s broader engagement with quantum industry and funding leaders. Multiple nations had committed resources to participate in TQC work streams since the Community’s establishment earlier in the year.
