On July 2, 2024, NATO’s Transatlantic Quantum Community (TQC) held its inaugural virtual meeting. Denmark served as the first national chair of the Community, which NATO described as “Allied led” with voluntary participation. According to NATO, more than half of Allies were already involved, including the United States, Canada, France, Italy, and Czechia.
Establishment of the TQC followed Secretary General Stoltenberg’s September 2023 call for a transatlantic quantum community and the approval of NATO’s Quantum Technologies Strategy in November 2023. NATO’s International Staff had collaborated with member states to set up the Community during the intervening months.
According to NATO, the Community would bring together quantum experts from national governments, industry, academia, funding bodies, and research institutions. Its agenda included funding and technology challenges, talent development, and partnership opportunities. A first annual plenary meeting was planned for autumn 2024.
