In January 2024, Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Micky Adriaansens presented the National Technology Strategy (NTS) to the Council of Ministers. The strategy identifies ten key technology sectors in which the Netherlands excels scientifically and that are considered critical for future economic growth and national security. Quantum technology is among the ten designated priorities.
According to QuTech, the NTS sets an ambition for the Netherlands to be in the EU leading group for the manufacturing and commercialization of quantum technology by 2035. The strategy calls for positioning the country through investments in talent, facilities, financing, and market creation.
Adriaansens stated that “companies, knowledge institutions, societal organisations and the government will prioritise ten strategic technologies” that are “necessary for future Dutch jobs and income, solving societal challenges and our national security.”
