Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Science and Engineering signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NASA on June 26, 2024, covering quantum research, education, and space-based applications. The agreement is executed through the Qatar Center for Quantum Computing (QC2).
According to Qatar News Agency, the MOU covers a feasibility study exploring potential collaboration on technology development for quantum communications and networking, as well as quantum sensors for space-based science and observation. Use cases under consideration include blind quantum computing, distributed quantum computing, and Very Long Baseline Interferometry. Both parties will also explore potential joint development of future space-based quantum missions.
Dr. Saif Al-Kuwari, Director of QC2, said the scope of collaboration with NASA was extensive and in line with the center’s objectives. The MOU also includes potential joint efforts on training, education, and workforce development in quantum technologies.
